How we estimate conception and due date
We count pregnancy from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). That is how gestational age (GA) is recorded in obstetrics. Conception typically occurs around ovulation, about 14 days after LMP in a 28-day cycle, or earlier/later in shorter/longer cycles. Ultrasound can refine dating, especially in the first trimester. For IVF, dating uses embryo age at transfer to compute an LMP equivalent.
